Past Conventions

The Annual Convention gives members the opportunity to meet other collectors from across the country and expand their knowledge of Pickard China. Each convention includes a business meeting to discuss the operation of the Pickard Collectors Club.

The convention activities typically include a welcome reception, multiple viewings of Pickard collections, a tour of the city, several informative presentations by members and guest speakers, an evening banquet and auction, as well as, a dealer show and sale.

2014 Itasca,IL Headquartered at the Westin Chicago Northwest. Tour of the Pickard factory and museum at Antioch, IL followed by lunch at the historic Lehman Mansion. Tour of Sanfilippo Estate showcasing antique musical instruments and Carousel Pavilion. Bus trip to Lake Geneva Museum to see club exhibit, "Golden Treasures of Gilded Age, Pickard China." Lunch at Baker House, visits to three private Pickard collections.
2013 Providence, RI Headquarters at Providence Biltmore Hotel. Tour of New Bedford Museum of Glass, New Bedford Whaling Museum for exhibit of Pairpoint glass, bus tour of Newport's Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Drive, lunch at "White Horse Tavern", walking tours of "The Breakers" and "Rosecliff." Reception at the Museum of the Rhode Island School of Design.
2012 Springfield, IL Tour of Dana House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and the A. Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, tour of the Executive Mansion with lunch on Pickard China. Reception at hosting Abraham Lincoln Presidential Hotel. Auction and banquet. A special treat to have Dr. Hugh Howard present.
2011 Portland, OR The historic Multnomah Hotel (now Embassy Suites) was our headquarters. Reception at the Pittock Mansion, 1914 home of former Oregonian newspaper owner. Tours included wine tasting at nearby Willamette Valley vineyards, visits to Portland's Rose Garden, Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden, and the Rhododendron gardens near Reed College. Bus tour of the Columbia River gorge followed by dinner and collection showing hosted by the Phalens. Auction and Banquet.
2010 Atlanta, GA With the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel as headquarters, we dined at an old Southern mansion, toured Atlanta History Center and Tullie Smith House, lunched at the Swan Coach House Restaurant, got in some antique shopping, saw a fabulous private collection of Pickard. Speakers on Sat. included a porcelain painter and restorer, a talk on how e-commerce is affecting antiques sales, and a slide show of East Indian potters. Finale: a great meal and successful auction. Y'all come back now, y'hear?
2009 Long Beach, CA Stayed aboard the Queen Mary Hotel in 1st class staterooms. Cocktails and viewing Pickard collections in private homes. Tour of the Getty Villa in Malibu -- home to an extensive collection of antiquities and ancient art. Guided tour of the Gamble House in Pasadena. Presentations on Pickard and early California pottery, and a behind the scenes guided tour of the Queen Mary. Banquet & Auction.
2008 Cincinnati, OH Ohio riverboat dinner cruise. Tours of city, an art museum, a visit to an antique mall, and lunch overlooking the Ohio river. Presentations about Cincinnati's influence on artistic woodcarving in the late 1800s, and the city&s architectural sculpture. Banquet & Auction.
2007 Monterey County, CA Tour of Hearst Castle. Presentations. Lunch at the Hansen's Toy Shop in Salinas. Banquet & Auction.
2006 Chicago, IL Tours of the Pickard Factory and of Cuneo Museum. Bus tour of Chicago and its World's Fair sites. Visit to Pickard home. Presentations. Banquet & Auction.
2005 Washington, DC (Rossyln, VA) Tour of the Hillwood Musuem & Gardens, and lunch at the Kennedy Center. Presentations about Yeschek and Brauer. Banquet & Auction.
2004 St. Louis, MO Festival of Pickard Roses, historic homes and the World's Fair. Presentations on Siedel, Emil Aulich and Franz B. Aulich. Banquet & Auction.
